Founded in 2021, HAI is a deeptech startup with the mission to transform offshore and onshore energy operations through intelligent software.
Our hybrid AI approach is what sets us apart:
HAI means “Hybrid AI”. It’s the seamless integration of sensor data and physics-based models, combining the precision of engineering with the agility of artificial intelligence to create robust, explainable, and field-ready solutions.
HAI was born from the complementary visions of its Brazilian founder and Norwegian co-founder. This unique cross-continental DNA – combining Brazil's creativity and energy expertise with Norway's excellence in offshore innovation – is embedded in everything we do.
But HAI is more than just an acronym for Hybrid AI - it's also the Norwegian word for shark. And just like sharks, we're always moving forward, sharply sensing changes, and adapting to dynamic environments. Agile, smart, and relentless – that's our spirit.

Our team
João holds an MSc from PUC-Rio and a PhD from TU-München (Germany) in physics-based computational simulations of fluid flows with a post-doc in the same topic at PUC-Rio. He has over 15 years experience leading and executing R&D and consultancy projects in Oil & Gas production, flow assurance and related topics and has specialized over the past years in hybrid AI solutions which led to the foundation of HAI. João has been the Technical Lead and Manager of Flow Technology for SINTEF in Brazil and the Chief Scientist and Managing Partner at ISDB FlowTech (previously SINTEF-Brazil) for more than 10 years.
